The digestive process is when food is broken down into smaller, absorbable molecules that the body can use for energy, growth, and repair.

Steps of Digestion:
Ingestion: Food is taken into the mouth.
Mechanical Digestion: Teeth chew and grind food, while saliva moistens it and contains enzymes that begin breaking down carbohydrates.
Chemical Digestion: Food travels down the esophagus into the stomach, where stomach acid and enzymes further break down food, particularly proteins.
Small Intestine: Food enters the small intestine, mixed with bile from the liver and enzymes from the pancreas. These substances break down fats, carbohydrates, and proteins.
Absorption: Nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream through the small intestine.
Large Intestine: Undigested material passes into the large intestine, where water is absorbed, and waste products are formed into feces.
Egestion: Feces are expelled from the body through the anus.
